ABOUT OHF

We Believe

The journey to equality is simple, but it’s never easy. Moving towards a more inclusive worldview enables a person to understand that the very humanity which resides within them is identical to the humanity which resides within another. This changes the “other” to a brother or sister. And as siblings of equal standing, our brother/sister deserves no less than the full range of rights, benefits, and privileges we expect for ourselves.

Conversations about the subjects that separate and divide people are necessary for conflict resolution and personal growth. Yes, these dialogues are often fraught with anxiety and countless opportunities for misinterpretation. One seemingly innocuous comment can quickly devolve a conversation into a shouting match with one person feeling marginalized and the other feeling attacked.

Having a conversation about racism with someone of a different “race” can be like walking through a minefield. We’ve all been there. But when both parties consciously commit to the following strategies beforehand, the potential damage can be mitigated.

  • Speak to one another with respect and care for the other person’s inherent humanity.
  • Actively listen with the intent to leave the dialogue with a better grasp of the other person’s point of view.

We believe that people can move to a more egalitarian mindset when:

  • They want to change
  • They believe change is possible
  • They know how to change

Our goal is to engage you, prompt you with different ideas, and equip you with the knowledge, grace, and love to be moved and move those in your sphere of influence closer to fully embracing everyone in our human family because . . . we’re more alike, my friends, than we are unalike.
