DCF + OHF: Allyship 101
Race and racism are broad and complicated topics, and necessary conversations about race-based biases can be challenging at best. In order for people to have meaningful dialogues on this subject, they must practice two mutually agreed-upon prerequisites--
—without these two agreements, even with the best intentions, the conversation will invariably devolve into a shouting match with one person feeling marginalized and the other personally attacked. Allyship 101: The Basics is an informative and transformative, day-long experience brought to you by the Diocese of Central Florida and the Becoming Beloved Community Task Force that will--without shaming or blaming--help people understand the precise nature of race-based biases, the forces that maintain those biases, ways to grow through education and awareness, and what they can do today to eradicate racism. People can abandon race-based biases when they want to change, when they believe change is possible, and when they know how to change. The event is open to Diocese of Central Florida parishioners, lay leaders, staff, clergy, and guests interested in eradicating racism right where they are. We welcome those wanting to join us in answering the call to love one another. Seating is limited and lunch will be provided. Tickets [link pending] are $15.
